You need to hear JesseGannonTruth! Combine the improvisational elements of soul/broken beat and post-bop grooves with a sophisticated harmonic palette and garnish with introspective, unforgettably lyrical melodies and you have the recipe for your garden variety soulphistapop group. Songwriter/pianist Jesse Gannon and his band the TRUTH has no problem with being put into this category but has embraced the description willingly. A five piece band, JesseGannonTruth delivers a shockingly fresh and dynamic show brandishing the fearless and charismatic drummer "Golden" Molden Picket and the spontaneous melder of rock, jazz, and soul styles, Eric Slaughter on guitar. Jesse's florid, hand-crafted acoustic and electronic key work provides a uniquely broad, supportive spectrum of color for his raspy, bold, and at times plaintive song. Completing the lineup are two bass players, which is perhaps the most obvious signal among connoisseurs at a performance that something interesting is about to be heard. These two sonic artisans are Teddy Brookins (Electric Bass) and "Deep" Bob Deboo (Contrabass). Ted's sheer prowess and facile attention to the groove combines harmoniously with the sonic richness of Mr. Deboo's masterfully manhandled instrument. This provides the Truth with a much broader list of play options; not the least of which being an authentic employment of the traditional jazz idiom. "If you don't want to be put into a genre, create one!" This innovative music collective was formed by Jesse James Gannon, who as a pianist, writer, producer, and vocalist, has been involved in several musical endeavors in St. Louis and abroad. In addition to playing many of the top musical venues in St. Louis, he has also traveled and shared the stage with such notables as The Temptations, Steve Ewing of the Urge, India Arie and also numerous local artists. His intense performance style and depth of musicality have been a welcomed addition to many stages for nearly ten years and counting. JesseGannonTruth is currently cultivating an underground buzz among musicians and critics and is poised to burst into mainstream ears with a freshness. |
